Hi
I use to bank with Halifax about 4 years ago, and during the time I managed to get 2 unpaid Direct Debit fine (from DD which I cancelled and were re-added without my knowledge) which pushed me into the red, I think the fines at the time were £30-35.. I was also not in the UK at the time I was staying with a family member in the US for 2 months (returned 1 month from date of first fine). I returned to find out that Halifax had put fines upon fines which accumulated to £650! which at that time I could not afford, I spoke to Halifax and they would not budge, I intern said I will not pay that extortionate fine and could not even if i wanted to, especially when you have take so much in fines that and previous year which were said to be unlawful at the time..
I dont really care about getting money back or paying for the fine (which I still think I should not have to pay that much by any means) what I care about is getting this off my credit file if there is any way this is possible without having to wait 2 or so years. I think it is now showing up as a default and know this will hinder my chances of getting a mortgage when im ready towards the end of this year. I did not think that there was going to be an issue as about 1.5 years back i checked my credit and there was nothing on there about this matter...
If anyone can help I would be really grateful!!
Thanks

Why do you think you should have the default removed from your credit records?
If you are in default, creditors make such a record with the credit reference agencies to alert others who may otherwise be minded to extend credit to you.0 -

Is it not being disputed that these extortionate charges that caused it in the first place are not legit??? otherwise i would not be here wasting time... Not sure what the current situation is at the moment hence the tread!0 -

No, its not currently being disputed, and hasn't been to any great extent since 2009.0
