Can I reclaim cc charges over 6 yrs ago?

I had a bank of Scotland credit card & recently requested & received z list of charges from them totalling £700 from 2004-2006.

The account defaulted just after then & waß passed to a DCA which I've have just finished paying off

I sent the template letter from this site requesting a refund of hnfair charges & they have written saying they are unable to refund as over 6 years ago & sent me a copy of the complaints procedure with the ombudsman

Is this correct am I unable to reclaim?

What shall I do now?

  • I would be really interested in any answers to this question, as i also had a credit card that was last used about 15 years ago.At the time i was struggling to make repayments and often got hit with late payment charges and often could only afford to make the minimum repayment each month. The account is still open but after paying off the debt it has not been used since.Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    many thanks

Bubbles12 I am in a very similar situation and been looking for definitive answer if we can claim for charges more than 6 years ago.

From what I can see, the guide only mentions that the data can only be retrieved to 6 years back....

I know of one bank, fairly recently, who refunded more than 6 years worth of charges. Your circumstances would have to be really extenuating and not just a case of difficulty making repayments etc.

You are in their hands and at the mercy of their goodwill.
Some banks also will supply older records, some won't.
