Just a quick question. I'm moving to a new flat tomorrow and want to get Internet sorted as quickly as possible. If there is an obvious phone line into the flat, what is my next step? If I plug a phone in, I assume a dial tone will mean that the line is working okay. Is there any sort of number I can call to get the phone number of the line in order to tell new landline/broadband people?

Thanks!

try 17070 if it's a BT line that should read the number back to you.

If calling line identity is not available then 1470 17070

If by "new" you mean "new build" then you will probably have to pay BT or someone to provide you with a phone line, even if the builder has left you with a socket it won't be wired up to anything.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.
