this was one of those toe curling interviews were a minister is humiliated by Paxman. In fairness it was like shooting fish in a barrel.
Where, however was the gutless coward George Osborne though ?
Surely he would have wanted to bask in the glory of this tax postponement. Or did he magnaminously let a junior take the credit ?
* cue usual BBC bias nonsense *

Personally I think this simply proves that George and Danny need to go.
They clearly made this decision at the last minute and then sent out a junior to defend it in the lion's den. What a cowardly cop out by both of them.
Its time for George and Danny to be replaced by heavy weights with real gravitas (Ken Clarke & David Laws would be my choice).0 -
They won't be wheeling her out again in a hurry. :rotfl:
Thanks - I needed a good laugh!0 -
I felt rather sorry for her
she was asked to do an impossible job and didn't do too bad (in the circumstances that is)0 -
I'm beginning to think we are fooked. Not because we cant fix it, but the fix would be so unpleasant for the average voter, no politician dare mention it.0

i felt quite sorry for her - what are you supposed to do in that situation "yes well, george osborne decided we would do it today, just off the cuff really. to be honest, it's the first i've heard of it, i don't really agree with it, and really it makes no sense against a general background of tax receipts being below expectations and a specific backdrop of reduced VAT collections from fuel sales due to falling petrol prices".
if you can't tell the truth and there is no way to lie your way out of it then you're always going to look stupid. the govt would have been better off not providing anyone to explain this on newsnight, as the coverage wouldn't have been any worse.0 -

I think even Jeremy Paxman felt sorry for her by the end0 -

Really? I think she was praying for a swift death! You could tell that she didn't really even agree with the policy and had been out of the loop in the decision making process by her fumbling answers.0 -

yes, but then she got hold of that point about how grateful and appreciative she thought hard working families (TM) would be and just started repeating it, in a manner that started to feel a bit sanctomonious.0 -

That was probably the only point she could grab onto and believe in.0
