esa medical tomorrow but ill should I attend

I am due to have my esa medical tomorrow, I am currently on IB so this is for the transfer to esa, hopefully.

I have been on IB with psioratic arthritis, I suffer with severe migraines and have recently been diagnosed with severe depression, my gp had just told the phyciatrist that it was just depression, but they have assessed it has severe and have spoken to the gp suggesting they increase the meds for it.

For the last few days I have felt something in the back of my throat but not been able to see anything, today I have white spots around my throat....tonsillitus.

Should I attend my medical tomorrow with this, or would it be ok to cancel? Does it go against you if you cant attend due to illness?

I am totally stressed out by the thought of going anyway after reading other peoples experiences.

If you do not attend, then your benefit may stop until a new medical is arranged.

Speaking personally, both my appointments have been professional, and the health-care-professional that has examined me has been polite, and asked reasonable questions.

In almost no circumstances - unless you are actually unable to make it - would I recommend not going.
At best it's going to be major hastle getting the benefit restarted, at worst, you could be found not to have good cause for not attending, and your benefit stopped until you actually do attend.
  • I think if you can make it you really should try. This happened to a friend of mine. she was really poorly on the day of her ATOS medical ( those words make me feel ill) and rang up that morning saying she couldn't attend as she was really poorly. Anyway that afternoon phone call from DWP saying if she didn't attend medical by the end of the week her benefit would be stopped. She went a few days later, still very poorly but this went in her favour as she could hardly sit up straight and was put in the support group. Maybe ring ATOS and see what they suggest they may be able to offer a new appointment

Have you seen your GP about your current health problem?
  • Definately go for the medical, if you are ill it can only go in your favour, and you will have to have a medical so you can at least get it over with. And try not to take any pain meds before you go,then they will see you at your worst.

    Good luck for tomorrow.

Agree with above... do whatever you can to get there... the last thing you need is the mess that can result from failure to attend. Try to get into your mind what descriptors apply to you so you know how you should qualify for the benefit. Request copy of ESA85 (ATOS medical report) from DWP few days after medical is probably advisable.

Get it out the way and then suggest get to GP ASAP.
