On ESA but started applying for jobs today as I am almost ready to come off

and I wanted to get interviews in advance so I'm not left weeks without a wage or JSA, due to me being inexperienced and it being my first job I'll likely have to wait ages before I hear back off anyone anyway. Is this allowed or will anything happen to me for applying? I have an ATOS medical on July 4th but I'm now more ready for work so will most likely tell them when I get there (unless this is a temporary false streak of confidence) that I want to switch over to JSA.

You don't need to tell them that you are applying for work. When you go to the medical that is with ATOS, not the DWP, so if you are determined to change to JSA you should do so before July 4th and not attend the medical.0

If you have been on ESA for some time, and go directly into work, you may be eligible for back-to-work benefits which you would not otherwise be, if you switch to JSA, then get work.0

Thanks
I've been on for about 13 weeks0 -
As above.. ATOS medicals are not the place to be informing of a desire to claim JSA and get a job. I think you need to make a decision.. perhaps something you could get help in doing from someone involved in your treatment or medical circumstances? If you don't think you qualify for ESA main phase (take a look at the descriptors for WRAG and Support group) then I'd be tempted to make a switch to JSA before medical. On the other hand if you have no worries regarding such medicals and being assessed then you don;t actually have much to lose.. if you qualify for ESA you'll get more money and if you don't then you can apply for JSA. But it's important to note that seeking work while on ESA is entirely permitted.. in fact some work is even permitted in some circumstances.. if when assessed you say you're seeking a job as a pilot and claiming to have dreadful vision then obviously then there becomes an issue..lol"Do not attribute to conspiracy what can adequately be explained by incompetence" - rogerblack0

Thankyou!
My main concern was not being able to afford rent. But the Disability premium will allow me to do that if I claim it with JSA! I'm going to apply for Job Seekers tomorrow and a crisis loan to keep me tied over...0
