Elderly Bathroom re-fit - Walk in Bathing Company

Hi

My parents have been quoted £4000 ex vat to have their bathroom re-fitted.

This quote includes replacing bath with larger than normal shower, installing a new shower, chair and handles in shower, installing a new sink and moving it's location, covering all the walls with a board that looks like tiles (this will be placed over the existing tiles)disposing of everything old. I can't think of anything else.

I just wanted to see if the above quote seemed fair? They've had quote from a couple of other specialist companies but these have been in the £6k region.

Any advice would be much appreciated it.

Thanks

Hi: Depends the standard of the specification e.g. materials being used i.e. brands/types of sanitaryware, brassware etc. Have you compared the quotes like for like? Have any of the companies been recommended to you by a source your trust?

I'm getting quotes at the moment for a bathroom involving a lot more work than that and don't expect to pay that much. That said I'm getting basic sanitary ware so it's very difficult to compare. Have you got the breakdown between labour and materials?

If you find that you're paying extra because the company is offering a particular service to your parents to ensure that it suits their needs you could consider asking an occupational therapist to assess and specify whats needed which any general builder/bathroom fitter should be able to fit.
