Abolish Article 4 restrictions on HMO's
Responsible department: Department for Communities and Local Government
This petition has been formed to rally for the abolishment of the use of Article 4 directives to stop properties being used as Houses in Multiple Occupation.
Since its introduction these measures have been used by local councils to effectively ban new HMO's and has had a drastic effect on the one area of the housing market that has otherwise remained bouyant despite the recession. :rotfl:
The measures have been put in place without listening to property professionals who all disagree that it is a good thing.
This legislation is not only bad for the economy as a whole but also is also unfairly labeling students and those on low income as a sub-class that are prone to anti social behaviour and is potentially forcing them into substandard accommodation in areas they do not want to live.
I think this is more about landlord greed rather than student welfare. I also support the changes, far to many areas are being taken over my HMOs which ruin the area and increase crime plus drug taking.
I don't think this will get any where near the 100,000 signatures. Even if Hamish, Nollag and Sibley sign it, it will be under 250 signatures. :rotfl:

Restrictions on HMO's are a great idea.... If you want higher house prices.
The fewer people you allow to live in a house, the more houses they need....;)“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

Everything leads to a higher house price in your world Hamish!
Nothing stops you!
A landlord will be less willing to pay for a higher priced house if he can only get £200 a week x 4 students.
If he can get £200 a week x 6 students for the same property, he'll pay more for the house.
Therefore, this wouldn't neccesarily correlate with higher house prices.0 -
And where are the other 2 students going to live, Graham?0
