struggling to get started :,(

Ok so here it is,
Im quite new to this site and i have tried setting myself a plan of action to get my overdraft paid off its £600 and im getting charged every month so i figure this is the first thing i should focus on to get my debts paid off.
The problem is i get paid in cash every week from work and its every saturday so by the time the bank is open on a monday half of it is gone and i then think there is no point only putting a bit in the bank so i end up spending that too.
i cant seem to control it i got paid £80 yesterday into my bank and that is all gone already and i dont seem to have anything to show for it i seem to be spending because im misrable i need to get a grip can anyone help me i dont know in what way i just need some advice and maybe help with a suitable plan

thanks for any help
please be kind not in a good place atm :(

Would doing a spending diary help?
You could do it on a week by week basis, just to see what you're spending your money on x

Have you got someone you can trust locally, mum, dad, sibling that you could give the cash to bar your 'pocket money'? If they're very kind they could pay the cash into the bank for you on Monday.

What's causing the spending? Resolve that (yes, easier said than done) and you'll be half way there.

Try doing a statement of affairs and making a note of everything you *have* to spend money on at the moment and what might be left over. List what you spend on bills, rent, food etc..

  • I think your main problem is not putting the money in the bank. It's much easier/tempting to spend if you have cash in your pocket. Can you ask your employer to pay in your bank account?
If that is not possible then on Saturday when you get paid ( I assume you work on Saturdays?), give money to someone you trust and ask them to bank it for you on Monday.
It's not ideal as that person may also forget or loose money - at the end of the day, it's your money and you should be banking it yourself.

As "really annoyed" has suggested definitely talk to your employer.

My boyfriend was spunking £200 a week within 48-62 hours when he was getting cash, last month he asked his boss to give him £100 cash 3weeks a month and then a cheque. That cheque lasted us 2weeks and helped us pay all our bills :)

Sounds silly, but maybe try not going out for a few weeks? Then you'll have no temptation to spend the cash...

Do any banks near you have deposit points or cash machines you can pay into? It might be worth changing your account to one where you can pay the money in on Saturday.
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,
Had the whole of their cash in his care.

I always used to spend my petrol money but now I put it into my boyfriends account every payday and he gives me it when I needn't. I have never been without petrol money since I started doing it. Once I forgot it was there as I was on holiday and ended up with a nice little bonus. My point is that if there is someone that you really trust and they are willing to help then use it because it really helps.
