PayPal Chargeback - Do I Pay?

Hi everyone,
I recently sold an iPhone on eBay, looked legitimate at a glance and due to all communication going though eBay messages, i assumed everything would be fine.
The buyer asked me to send to works address, but as i mentioned it was through eBay so i didn't think it would matter.
The buyer turned out to be a fraudster, and has done a CC chargeback. I took the money out of my PP account as it was around a month later, so now it shows -£406.
My question is, if i never pay the balance, what will happen? I don't see why i should as i have been scammed.
I would be happy never to use PP again, as i have read that the account just gets banned. My real worry is any credit implications.
Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks.

But on the same vein, why should PayPal suffer the loss?
They'll chase you, and PP/eBay don't let things like that go.0 -

Because they are big companies that should be dealing with this sort of fraud, plus they charged me £40 final value fee, which I won't get back either.
No phone no money and £40 down for the privelage.0 -
Was the address you sent it to the one that PayPal said was 'OK to send to'? If not you are stuck as PayPal only cover you if you use the address they tell you to use.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. No, it was a different uk address.
I know I will not probably win the case, that I'm not to bothered about. What I want to know is what will PayPal do if I don't pay the negative balance?0 -

If you didn't follow the PayPal instructions you will definitely lose the case.
So that means PayPal will instruct debt collectors and they have a reputation for being heavy, so you'll need to go to the various debt forums here on MSE and make sure you know exactly what they can and can't do so that when they start harassing you you can warn them off if they go too far.
Expect several calls a day, maybe some door stepping and maybe even people talking to your neighbours (that is worth a complaint)
They are not nice and they won't let this drop, be warned.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Do you have a DD setup with PayPal? I suspect this will be their first call.0
