Turkish Lira

Have read the comments of only taking about £50 in Turkey Lira and changing sterling when in Turkey. Went to the high street this morning to check on the exchange rates and only one travel agent had Turkish Lira but wanted 1% commission.

Does anyone have any suggestion where I might change £50 and not pay any commission?

Thank you.

Went into the Post Office and they no longer do Turkish Lira. Tried their website and they came up, but when I tried to order some (to see what the rate was) nothing.

After a search on Google it came up with Travelex. Checked the website and exchange rate which was good compared to other sites and I can collect at the airport.

    Has anyone used them?

Yes, I have used travelex regularly and they are fine.
You might also want to check with your bank, as they often do comm free for customers - just check the rates.

Best bet though is to take a minimum amount of cash and to have a Nationwide Bank account and to use its debit card for spending and cash withdrawals from ATMs abroad. I have an account just for this sole purpose!

Travelex are great, but unless you pay by Switch you'll incur a cash advance fee.

    Why are you worrying about a 1% charge on £50 - that's 50p.

Not sure if people are aware but Turkish Lira are being replaced by New Turkish Lira which are a millionth of the original so 1million Old Turkish Lira = 1 New Turkish Lira

Think this is from 1 April.
