My government petition for a new, fairer car insurance industry

So I did it, I started a government petition for a fairer car insurance industry. Instead of just moaning about absurd renewal prices I've put together some ideas which is designed to promote responsible driving from everyone and substantially reduce costs so quotes and renewal prices are based on facts and an actual record of you're driving rather than out-dated presumtions based on age, sex, postcode and you're job!

What you're asking for exists in telematics schemes where a 'black box' is put in your car and monitor your driving. Loads already on the market and many more will follow.0

You do realise that there is already a review in place. So, you are asking for something that is happening.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
I know, I have read the independant report (well most of it) I can't help but feel though that the government wont do the right thing and prime ministers will continue to be wined & dined by all the car insurance companies, in private parties. I do believe Cameron when he said 'we're all in it together'
that report will only make suggestions... my petition is a proposal of actual ideas0 -
How many Prime Ministers are there?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

Why not make the proposals to whoever it is that is running the review?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Just stop putting in PI claims for whiplash easyDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

Telematics will not create a fair insurance scheme.
Example, you have black box and accelerate out of danger caused by another driver and your insurer puts black mark against you. You brake sharply because you drive through area where kids are playing chicken or idiot just pulls out without looking.
Until ALL cars have black boxes and every extreme activity (rapid acceleration, braking) are analysed with all cars in vicinity being modeled at same time to assess what happened, those who have black boxes could find that they end up paying for others errors.
Even doing this will cost as the analysis will cost.
Also the time restrictions seem crazy- drive between 11pm and 6am and you are an increased risk.
Personally I would like to see telematics in all cars to do exactly what I describe above, model driving but NOT to criminalise drivers or use for insurance. I drive daily on a stretch of motorway which has tailbacks which just vanish with no reason, suspect it is junction layout but telematics analysis could model this brilliantly and deliver better designed roads which encourage traffic flow rather than the current car hating eco crazy councils who do what they can to cause jams, which is very un-eco.0 -
I dont like the idea of the black box, not because I'm a bad driver but more the fact I feel like big brother is watching me..
However, I do agree insurance is getting out of control. I am 21, been driving for over 3 years and in the first 2 years by insurance went up each year instead of down.
I saw this petition earlier. Maybe if quite a few people sign, it may go somewhere..

I also think it's very unfair on the people from places like Manchester, London, Birmingham who are having to pay ridiculous sums of money because of false claims. We need a fairer system. I am fortunate I live in Peterborough because if I lived in any of these citys I would not be able to afford my insurance..
Anyways, more people sign, there is a better chance of something happening. Pass it around.0 -
Pity what you say is all rubbish.0

I pay £250 fully comp on an MX5 1.8S.
Seems reasonable to me.0
