How to find out what finance company i used around 1988-1998???

Okay, in my younger years i used to purchase hi-fi eqipment from a particular local shop and i ALWAYS had PPI because of the risk of loosing my job in those days. the problem now is that this shop no longer is running, and i cant find the contact details for the lady who ran it. the web site is still running but the number of the shop is a dead one.

i have tried black horse as thats the only one i could possibly think of, and also tried to get any info from my bank but they cant find any payments made to any finance company.

the question is, is there any way of me finding out what this company was called from anywhere??.. i feel that this money should be in my families pocket not the banks.

i would appreciate any help that is on offer regarding this problems

Thanks

Jay

So you accept that you took on PPI because there was a risk of you losing your job and you wanted cover.

So how is this a mis-sell then? PPI isn't always mis-sold there are perfectly good reasons (such as yours) why its taken out.

Your previous post on MPPI claims that you know you were miss old MPPI because dodgy claims companies told you so :/

On that post I feel the money should be in the pockets of the cover provider.

You make a complaint to the shop that sold you the goods and the PPI, as this was so long ago and the company does not exist any more, then you have no one to complain to as there will be no paper trail now I would imagine.
  • That is not always the case, i was not told that i could choose a different ppi company than that of the finance company that i was going to use. so that is surely mis sold?.

The finance company would not of been offering you advice and therefore did not have to offer comparisons from other companies products.

You said yourself that you always had PPI due to risk of redundancy! Personally I don't think you will get anywhere with this claim.

There is a high risk of the organisation not having paperwork and many "finance companies" like Black Horse Finance, Panasonic Finance and Sony finance etc were probabally not regualted by the FSA during 1988-1998 period.

This "complaint" is too old and too weak to stand any chance of success.

By that logic you should write on every job application you ever make "there are other candidates who will do as good or a better job than I will for the same price or less".

    Your argument is frivolous.

There is and never has been any requirement to tell you that you can buy elsewhere. Tied agents are not allowed to recommend or discuss products of others. They retail their own product.

If you wanted independent advice then you should have used an IFA. You didnt and the person you used acted within their remit.
