Aberdaron/Pwllheli Area

Going in 10 days time for a week at a SC cottage between Aberdaron and Pwllheli. Any suggestions for places to go and things to do and see please in this area, apart from Snowdon and Portmeirion. (We are past our prime! so not into absailing etc!) Also any recommended places to eat would be useful. Thanks for any help.

From Pwllheli, get a one day Cambrian Coast Ranger ticket to travel along the coast railway to Aberystwyth or Machynlleth and back - a beautiful scenic line.

Caernarfon Castle - The biggest and best preserved castle in North Wales and also home to the Royal Welch Fusiliers museum.

Criccieth Castle - nowhere near as big or well preserved as Caernarfon but a worth a visit for the fantastic views, you can see pretty much all the way down the West Wales coastline as far as Pembrokeshire. Just make sure you visit on a nice day.

The Rabbit Farm in Llanystumdwy - Last time I was there they had meerkats so say no more.

The fridge is empty, the walls are damp, there's no hot water
And I look like a tramp and tramps like us
Baby we were born to walk
  • The Mill House at Sarn and Tremfan Hall Llanbedrog for eating spring to mind. If you visit Caernarfon try Y Wal in Palace street or the Black Boy in Stryd 4 and 6.

You've picked a lovely place to visit if you are near Aberdaron you have to visit uwchmynydd bit of walking great seafish places to eat and if you are brave and if the weather is permitting go for a day trip to bardsey from Aberdaron really really beautifull. The beach in Aberdaron is also nice if you get nice weather food at Ty Newydd is superb. Glyn Y Weddw, Llanbedrog is lovely if you like art,, and there is a great tea room there. Caernarfon is a bit far from Aberdaron you're looking at a good hour, Criccieth is lovely and closer remember to get some of the Cadwaladers ice cream I'm so lucky I work in Criccieth!!!! pm if you need more info about things locally xxxx

Llanberis on your way back from Caernarfon (depending on your route) go to Power Mountain, not expensive they drive you in a bus on a tour of the power station built inside the mountain! - fascinating.

electric mountain even. Stay along the bottom of the Llyen and enjoy the coast. Abersoch is great Porthmadog ,Criccieth & Aberdaron itself all stunning. Go down to Barmouth if you fancy a drive passing Harlech on the way. If your heading north do Caernarfon Castle and across to Anglesey some stunning coasts and intresting villages. Enjoy Gwynedd i have had a holiday home here for a few years now and go there most weekends . Breathtaking
