Does anyone have an ancestry.co.uk account to look up a death date for me?

I am trying to find out if an old friend that I lost touch with some time ago is still alive. Ancestry gives the same name in the same town she lived in, but of course, because I'm not a member, tantalisingly few details.
It's not worth me taking out a membership (and I'm in massive money-saving mode this month!), so if anyone could help I'd be really grateful!
Thanks

The only details you'll get is the place the death was registered in and the period it was registered in. You have to send away for the certificate to get more information.0 -

I am on FindmyPast and Death details are only available before, I think) 1996. even if Ancestry has more recent details I dont think you will have up-to-date information.
You may have more luck by writing to a local newspaper letters page, in the place you last knew of her, and ask if people know her whereabouts now.
another alternative is to search electoral rolls and try to find her that way.
and there is Friends Re-united - try putting in not just your friends name but people you have in common! Someone may know where she is!0 -
Ancestry will show you deaths registered in England up to 2006. If it's recent, they give a full date of birth so if you know it that will tell you if it's the person you're looking for.
I have a full sub if you want a look up."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0 -
If someone has Ancestry / Genes Reunited subscriptions they could search family trees if you have info on DOB etc. If the person has died and it is a public tree on Ancestry it will show up .. living people do not ,if it is a private tree then they could contact the tree owner to ask.
Genes is slightly different .. if a match shows up then you have to contact the tree owner for details
This might help0
