Company requesting National Insurance Contributions

I have recently began a claim with Santander claiming for my PPI on a store card in 2003. I was a student at the time and they have asked for my National Insurance contributions from the time to prove I was a student. Can they do this? I have phoned HM Revenue and customs and requested the copy of my national contributions from 2003 but they are taking 'ages' to get this info to me, despite many phone calls. Can anyone help?

If your reason for missell was that you were a student and therefore the PPI wouldnt have covered you then yes I think they are being reasonable asking for proof that you were a student.

Is there no other way to prove you were a student at the time?

Qualification certificates or a letter from the University/College may help.
