Problem with credit report

in Credit cards
Hi,
At the beginning of the year I applied for a TOISA with IF and have a search of type "credit enquiry" on my credit report.
I have raised a dispute with Equifax who got no reply so said I would have to take it up with IF.
I have queried this with IF.
They say they do a query for verification purposes but do not do a credit check or credit scoring.
I cannot see how any lender would tell the differencce between this check and a full credit check because it says "credit equiry".
Does anyone know what the "search type" should be for a check for verification and not credit checking.
IF are adamant that they only requested the verification type but I don't understand how this shows up.
On my Experian report savings accounts were down as "Unrecorded search".
On Equifax I either have "credit enquiry" or "authentication" (from equifax themsleves when I requested the report).
Thanks for any help
(I know this is the credit card board but seems to be a lot of knowledge on credit reports here)

hi there,
in my experience with credit reports, a credit enquiry is just a verification process.
normaly when a company such as IF do a credit search, on Experian it will list what type of product they are scoring on ie. credit card.
i too have a credit enquiry from Halifax and i too only opened an istant savings account.
with Equifax i would assume that the "unrecorded enquiry" is exactly the same thing
hope this helps somehow

The only search types on my report are "Credit Enquiry" and "Subsequent or Preliminary Enquiry"
There is a search key in the document "All about your Credit File" which I got with a previous report but not with recent ones. None of the values from the key appear in my report so it appears of little use.
The values are:
AV address verification
EN enquiry agent
LA loss adjuster
IB insurance broker
GI general insurance
CI Creditor insurance
TI travel insurance
CL credit file request
BI business insurance
DI direct insurance
HI health insurance
LI life insurance
PV personal vetting
DC debt collector
TP third party CRA
It may be worth asking if they still produce such a document and whether they still use the "Search Key".0 -
I have called Equifax and they have told me that they use the type of "credit enquiry" for both genuine credit enquiries and verification type searches. There is no difference displayed.0
