We have tickets to see Michael Mckintyre :T in Oxford on the 31st of July and were hoping to stay over a rare night away without the kids!! however Oxford hotels are very expensive.
Was hoping to travel by train and therefore need somewhere in walking/bus distance of the city centre. Many of the hotels I have looked at don't include breakfast so any suggestions for a nice cafe for breakfast and restaurant for evening meal nothing too fancy but not the usual chains as go to those with the kids! Just a nice steak or pub meal preferrably not pinged in a microwave.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Kassam stadium recently. It was 5 miles outside of Watford, but we got the hotel to give us a cab number to get to Oxford and back. It was a nice hotel and included a help yourself buffet breakfast of sausages, scrambled eggs, toast, tea, coffee, juices, cereals, yoghurts and bakery items. If you use the friends and family HI link it is £86 for the night you want. Link to this below.

A couple of years ago we stayed at the 4 star Devere Hotel in Abingdon Oxford. It has a nice pool and spa, plus lovely grounds. It is currently £49 for the night you want. Breakfast was very good and was about £8 per person. It has a lovely pub- Packhorse Inn at the end of the road that does nice food. Also outside of this pub is a bus stop for buses to Oxford (we didn't use so don't know times etc, but is you ring the hotel I am sure they will be able to help).

We have used the travel lodge at Peartree before and used the park and ride. Loads of pubs offering deals in Oxford for food, Pizza Hut is good too.Why pay full price when you may get it YS0
