Turkish Airlines messing me about....

Hi all
I had a terrible flight with Turkish Airlines in early Feb. Delays and rude staff from start to finish. On my return flight, the delay was so great that I missed my connecting flight(also with TA) and ended up having to stay overnight in Istanbul before being able to catch the next flight home.
The airline covered my board in a 3* hotel but I had to pay the visa fee to enter Turkey. This is $20. Immediatley on my return home I emailed the airline about this. After 1 month I got a reply saying that if i contact the ticket office and send them an invoice they will refund me.
I did this but another 1 month passed .....and nothing .....
I contacted the head office today in my city asking about my refund, again they asked for invoice. I have no invoice, this was not given to me. I do,however, have a stamped visa in my passport stating the price i paid $20 and the date I entered and left the country. This corresponds directly with the flight mishap.
They are being difficult and still asking for the invoice and refusing to refund me. Can they do this ? It is appalling. Where else can I go?
Many thanks all

Actually, when I went to Turkey last September, the visa fee was £10 - has it gone up now?
$20 works out at around £12 (at time of writing, according to xe.com).
Could you not create a simple invoice in Word, Excel, or something like OpenOffice (these generally have templates provided for invoices) and send it to them with scans of your receipts and passport page?0 -
Am I reading this right?Moneysaver1111 wrote: »Hi all

You did have an invoice, but you sent it to the airline when they first asked for it.
Now, when the airline in your city are asking for an invoice, you have nothing to send them.
Did you make a copy before sending the original?
If so, just send a copy and an explaining letter.
If not, just send an explaining letter.
Your third choice is to forget about it, and remember in future to copy original documents before sending the original anywhere.0 -
No I never had an invoice or receipt at the turkish visa desk, I'm guessing that they do not give these out unless requested.
You are right the fee is either £10 or $20. The stupid cash machine in front of the visa desk had run out of £'s so I was forced to withdraw $'s and get charged by the machine to boot.
It is my second time entering turkey. I entered by own free will in 2010, paid £10 and was never given an invoice then either. Its too late to make an invoice up, ive already told them i dont have one. Surely the visa stamp, which states the cost with corresponding dates would have been enough.0 -
So what does this bit mean then?...Moneysaver1111 wrote: »No I never had an invoice or receipt at the turkish visa desk, I'm guessing that they do not give these out unless requested.Moneysaver1111 wrote: »After 1 month I got a reply saying that if i contact the ticket office and send them an invoice they will refund me.

I think you need to write, and send them a copy of the appropriate passport page.0 -
Sorry i must not have explained myself clearly. I meant i contacted the sales office explaining the situation but without an invoice. They never replied resulting in me calling the head office.
Ive already scanned them the visa page from my passport but they are being difficult.0 -
Sorry, but are we talking about a tenner?0

yes my £10 and I want it back..... this is moneysavingexpert.com afterall.
i work too hard to give my cash to the turks without a fight.0 -
It is probably disorganisation and incompetence rather than maliciousness - but if you can bear sitting it out, should get sorted. They probably need an invoice because they have no other way or system to make payments. Write one in Word or Excel. From you to them this date $20 visa fee refund arising from delayed flight, and attach a copy of the visa and ticket counterfoil/flight details. I can't see this being particularly quick to resolve, but if they insist on an invoice, give them one.0

How much time have you spent on this? How much is your time worth? I'm guessing you've already "spent" more than you will be getting back!0
