10 day family holiday in Ibiza - how much spending money?

Hi

We're off to Ibiza in August (the quiet part!!) but, having not been abroad for many years, and never as a family, I have no clue how much spending money we're going to need. We are a family of 2 adults and 3 children (aged 5-12) and are going self-catering.

We would maybe like to eat out most evenings and maybe have a day trip......how much would you recommend we take?? I have no clue...was thinking £1500....but am hoping that's over-estimating.......

It depends on your lifestyle. Although we haven't been as a complete family (five of us) for about four years, we used to spend between £1k and £1.5K in a fortnight. That included eating out about 12 of the 14 nights and hiring a car for a couple of days.

OP that sounds about right to me.
anyway what you dont spend you can always bring back home.
( just dont change all of your money in to Euros at the start of the holiday)
    credit card bill. £0.00
    overdraft £0.00
    Help from the state £0.00

Thanks for that......am glad I'm on the right track then.....next question - do they still use travellers' cheques (as i said - it's been a long time since I've been abroad!!) or is it best to have some cash & then use a credit card?

your post is not the earliest one, however if you still look at the forum, would you share with me how you got your affordable accomodation...
(we are 4 to 5: parent, 2 girls 5 and 6, and possibly grand-ma but not sure!)
    Thank you

I would get yourself a prepaid euro card (you can get these from the post office) you can use that to pay for things or get cash out from a cashpoint.
Most people dont use travellers cheques any more.
there are shops that change sterling cash for euros free of charge as well.

roll on next month when we go too (and yes the quiet and beautiful side too)
  • £150 a day is an ample budget. We had the same amount last year in cala llonga and went to the supermarket to buy supplies for breakfast and lunch and ate out for dinner every night bar two which also saved money. You'll get well fed on 50-60e per evening meal. Where abouts are you staying? What kind of day trip are you thinking I may be able to help with that :)
