Hi, we have two phone lines at this address. My home line and my brothers business line. My brother was changing to BT and here's what happened.
26th March : I got a letter from Sky about cancellation, phoned them and told them it was an error, did not request it.
26th April : I get another letter from Sky about cancellation, phoned them, they said no cancellation is showing on their system must be computer glitch caused the letter to be sent out.
11th of May : My Sky talk and Broadband was cancelled. Called sky to try and reinstate it but they said they cannot get the same number back. Number is inactive, or cancelled, or something like that.
We found out that evening that both lines are now working on my brothers number, two phone lines, one phone number. One line has broadband, one not, one does 1471, one does not.
14th May : My brother spends 3 hours on the phone to BT trying to get them to sort it out.
16th May : BT send an engineer out, he just switches the lines at the exchange, my brothers line is now working OK, but I still have a line that only dials out and is on the wrong number.
The engineer said all he could do is switch the lines but he cant fix the other line since it is not a BT line, I have to go through SKY for that.
I talk to Sky again, they can not acquire my old number, they cannot do a 3rd party 'slam' on it since it is not currently active with another provider. They cannot set up a new line since they cant request specific number for that.
I talk to BT, they say there is two active lines at this address but there's nothing they can do since the other line is not theirs. The lady did say that it can take up to 14 days for a cancelled number to make it back into the system. But i dont know if it has been cancelled, i dont understand how BT can take over my line, change the number, and my brothers line still works on that number too?
I really badly need to get my old number back since I use it for business too. Does anyone know if i can reserve the number or get a hold of it before some-one else does?
thankyou,
Chris
