Received a silent call from 0448434322500 today, but can find nothing. Has anyone an idea what type of call it was, where from ; could it be some sort of line test?,

We had a call from this number on 16th May 2012. They asked to speak to my wife by name but rang off when she asked for the caller's name! ie not a SILENT CALL, but a very suspicious call. Perhaps they were checking her name against our telephone number?:(

Looks like it might be one of those so-called lifestyle surveys.

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Do remember that many firms (with VOIP or PABX kit) have the ability to send a 'Presentation Number' which is NOT the 'real' line number of the circuit bing used. All prefectly legal when used correctly, but the tell-tale sign is the addition (or absence) of spurious zeros or '44'. Take all number received with a pinch of salt!
