have i got any chance of a refund?

Hi Everyone
i ordered a new front door and facia for my porch in February. I paid a £200 deposit by cheque, i was told it would be fitted in 2-3 weeks but when i hadn't heard anything in March I phoned them, was told the door was being manufactured and they would contact me, I phoned them 4 times more, everytime I was given some excuse. Now it appears they have left their rented offices owing rent and utility bills and none of their phone numbers work. I have however found out that they are setting up another company at a different site with a mobile number as contact details. Do I have any way to get my deposit money back? what should I do? any ideas would be greatfully received.

I guess small claims court unless they issue you a refund or do the work.
  • Thanks McKneff
I paid by cheque wish it had been credit card but they came to the house ..
    Hi pcombo
I thought about small claims court but if they have done a runner do you think they would take any notice of a claim from the court? is there any way to see if other people have been making claims against them in the small claims court or is that information private?

You really need to find out if the company has gone bust or not.

If they have, you are then a creditor and can only expect pence back.

If they are still afloat and just moved premises, contact them and ask them when they are coming to do the work. Check that the comapny name is the same obviously.

If they've gone to the effort to change premises and telephone numbers it's likely they are trading as a new company so court action would be pretty pointless to be honest.

If they are only a small company they will probably wait 3 months then apply for the company to be struck off. You can object to this but it won't really get you any closer to getting your money back.

Doesn't look good i'm afraid. You can try contacting them at the new company but I can't imagine them wanting to help.

Was this a Limited company or a Sole Trader? (It makes a difference if taking a legal route).
