cancelled sky

last year i think January i had to cancel my sky account mainly because i was out of work. i spoke to a member at sky, explained my situation to them and all they said was i still had to keep paying. so i told them that i had no choice but to cancel the direct debt as it would put me in to debt. i also wrote to them but with now joy, they chased me for a period for the moneys that i owed for the last few months that i hadn't paid up to at that point. this week i have had a company called p.d.c.s text me on thursday and i had a letter come today demanding £103 how do i stand as it's been over a year since i cancelled.:money:

As I understand it you were within your first years contractual period when you stopped paying your Sky bill, they are entitled to hold you to your original contact and collect moneys to cover the full 12 months worth of subscriptions.
At some point if you don't pay the money owed they will trash your credit rating.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

If you were already out of your minimum term contract last year, then all you had to do was give 30 days notice and pay the remaining month's sub. Cancelling the DD does not cancel the contract and the debt will accrue.
Of course Sky only care about money, they're a business, not a social service. A change in your financial circumstances does not void your contract.

It sounds almost certainly that the OP entered a new 12 month contract (by upgrading?) over the phone. Why do people whinge so much when they enter a contract and then cannot meet the commitment and companies rightly chase the money they are owed. The worst possible thing that people can do is cancel their direct debit and offer no payments at all - talk to them and negotiate a continued smaller payment to pay off the "early cancellation penalty".

There is nothing said by the OP to confirm that they were still in minimum term in January '11. However they were already in arrears by several months by the time that they contacted Sky. So it is likely that Sky simply disconnected the service and now (over a year later) they have sold the debt on to a DCA.
