Free night in a hotel with More Than car insurance

I've been sent a renewal letter from More Than saying if I renew quickly (within 12 days) I get a free night in a hotel - wondering if this is a genuine offer or if it comes with so many T&Cs it's not really worthwhile doing. You know the ones. Anyone done it?

I can't seem to find anything out on their website, seems to be just over the phone...hmm sneaky...
(and actually their renewal price seems to be ok, for a change)

    Have you checked the Ts&Cs.
That would be better than wondering :-)

In general I would say it's not a good idea to choose your insurance on the basis of a freebie. There are so many other criteria - claims service, customer service, charges etc. that it's just not a good premise on which to purchase.
However if you are happy with the company and the price, then no harm done.

Check whether there is any obligation to buy meals or restrictions on dates e.g. Sun-Thurs.
Personally I would find non-weekend dates a serious restriction.

If you want the insurance anyway then it's a bonus, but in general don't buy it on the basis of a freebie which may be no use to you anyway.

My suspicion would be that it's room only, but it may be of some use to you.

Thanks Lisyloo. As I said it seems to be over the phone, no T&Cs in letter or the more than website.
I've just phoned them and its through these guys http://www.onenightfree.co.uk/ - seems genuine enough.

I'll check the renewal price before going ahead (obviously) but it seems like quite a nice bonus...actually rewarding loyalty rather pushing us all to chop and change insurers every year :)

I would still say shop around.
Our car insurance has gone down this year, so if you haven't shopped around you could still be paying over the odds. Maybe not, but unless you check you won't know.

Looks ok to me. The only thing I noted is that it's room only, so breakfast not included, but you don't have to eat there if you don't want to.

I would say you're lucky, most seem to be going up - but always always shop around (of course)

It's actually fallen over the last 3 months

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/insurance/2012/04/car-insurance-up-77---smallest-yearly-increase-since-2008

So you might be right, that we've been lucky with the timing of our renewal.

Its a marketing tool to get people to just renew because they think they're getting something extra!

Shop around and if your still happy with the deal on offer then renew. Also check on morethans own website as a new customer because they have a deal on at the moment offering up to 50% discount off if you have maximum NCD.

eSure are offering the same (or 12 months free car wash) for a friend referral
  • I've just had this offer too from More Th>n. I called to indicate that I was not wishing to renew my policy and explained that I could get it cheaper elsewhere. I was transferred to another person who reduced the renewal by about £60 and included the one night stay hotel offer. The reduction of price took it comparable to the lowest 3 other offers I had found and I decided that the hotel offer would compensate for the cashback which these 3 were offering (£25 on average).
I was advised that I will receive an email with details in 10 days or so and that the offer will last for a year.
Might be a nice break ........or a bit of a con.
    Time will tell.
