Can I give away my globe artichoke plants at this time of year?

I have 2 prickly globe artichoke plants which are extremely vigorous and taking up a lot of space in the garden. They look amazing, but the fruits aren't worth eating from them.
My question is........is it worth trying to dig them up and putting them on Freecycle to see if anyone would be able to make use of them? Or is it just the wrong time of year?
I have ventured into the garden for the first time properly in months due to a back injury. I was originally going to dig them up and put them on the lottie, but have reluctantly had to give it up due to back injury and family illness. They are now standing about waist high, and each plant is around 3foot round of big spiky leaves. I would hate to just have to bin them, but with giving up the allotment, I need the space now.

Do you want rid of them now?

It's probably as good a time as any - I'll be putting mine out shortly.

And make sure you let whoever is having them dig them out!

I didn't think of that! I was going to dig them out myself. Are they going to come out easily, or take a lot of digging? The tubers were planted 2 years ago.
