Golden Dawn were already down to about 4% in most polls. Will be interesting to see what happens to their vote now, especially as instead of turning on this chap, they are supporting him and saying that the communist MP threw a newspaper at him first and therefore appear to be saying that it was alright to smack her in the head.
I hope so. What good may come out of this story, is that people will no longer fall for their facade of "We help old ladies go to the church on Sundays and give to charities and organise soup kitchens etc" and see them for what they really are.

I was chatting to some Greek friends about this at work and there is a little more to the story that is worth understanding.

Firstly, Mr Kasidiaris was a member of the Greek special forces and so knows how to hit someone properly.

Also, he was locked in a room by TV company workers but he kicked the door in and escaped.

I first read about his military service (note that Greece still has mandatory conscription for men) today from one source, I will try to verify that. Nevertheless, what he did doesn't look like proper hand to hand combat to me, but rather the violent outburst of a sociopath.

I see that most foreign newsmedia didn't catch exactly what transcribed exactly before the attack, and it's very interesting. The Syriza spokeswoman (the one he threw the glass of water to) mocked him by saying "How is your case, did it got postponed?" and then what made him snap was "The real crisis of the democracy is that people like that are allowed into the parliament, that will return the country 500 years back."

The case she mentioned? He is prosecuted as an accomplice in a robbery with assault. Back in 2007 a university professor in Athens was assaulted, stabbed in the leg and his ID card was taken.

After the incident, employees of the tv station tried to contain him, he pulled a few more punches, then started yelling "I am an MP, you can't treat me like this!", took photos of the people in the area with his phone and then burst out of a door and fled. But not before he threatened to bring 100 of his Sturmabteilung to the station...

Right now he is still at large.

This could be very important thouhg as the Greek electroal system awards an extra 50 seats to the largest party (even if it is only by one vote) so if a few of th efar right end up voting for the mainstream right instead it boosts the chances of them finishing ahead of the anti-bailout socialists and thus greatly increases the odds of a pro-bailout coalition emerging - ie just what the doctor ordered for the Euro enthusiasts.

I think that most of these voters will turn instead to the "Independent Greeks" party, an anti-bailout, 'patriotic right' party, rather than vote for the New Democracy party. Another option is the LAOS party, but it didn't make into the parliament in May after it's leader made one barrel roll too many (first they were anti-bailout, then they participated in last autumn's coalition government, then they were against that again, and most of their most prominent members defected to New Democracy).
You wanna hear about my new obsession?
I'm riding high upon a deep recession...
