delivery company climbed over locked gate!! advice please

hi folks. hopefully you clear lot can advise on this situation as i'm so annoyed i can't think straight!!

boughta door online (£117 plus p&P). delivery company tried to deliver, but i was out. i called and re-arranged delivery for a few days later (1st day i took annual leave). i was in all day, but the door didnt show up. called them 3 times on my mobile (no landline at home yet as just moved in) and was twice told it was on its way. by the third time (5.30pm) they admitted it wasn't coming as it hadn't been collected from the warehouse that morning.

i specified that i wanted to be in when the door was delivered so i could check it as i had lost faith in the company, so arranged a second day of annual leave for 4 days later (a friday). but on the wednesday before this, while i was out, they delivered the door anyway!

worst of all, they put the door under my built-built, gated and locked car port. to access this area, they had to climb over a 5 foot high gate that was padlocked from the inside. it's specifically padlocked because i hve no garage door at the moment so don't want people to be able to wnder in at their leisure!

not sure what rights i have but i'm furious that
A) i still had to take the second days annual leave as it was too late to cancel
B) they ignored my request that i be able to sign for the door (don't think anyone signed for it as it happens)
c) they climbed over my locked gate to leave the door

is there anything i can do??

thanks in advance guys - you're always reliable :)

Apart from writing to the company explaining that you are not happy with the service, there isnt anything else you can do to be honest.

What is it that you want to do, bearing in mind that you got your door delivered.

The driver, presumably was using his initiative, he maybe knew nothing about your requests.

hi. thanks for this. yes, true i got my door (in the end).

i guess i'm angry at having to take 2 days off work, both of which were wasted as the door wasn't delivered on either day and as i only get a limited number of days off that's a loss i can't afford.

plus i'm annoyed that they climbed over a locked gate, which i thought secure, to deliver it. it just doesn't feel right and makes me feel less secure in the house, so i'd really like an apology from the delivery guy and a promise that this practice isn't accepatable and won't happen again.

i'm happy to write to them to express this but just wondered if there was anything legal to fall back on.

    cheers

Legally I wouldnt think so but I do understand your anger and certainly the insecurity (hadnt thought of that) I would certainly write to them and explain.

On the other hand re the security, if yu had a 15ft wall, a burglar would get in if he wanted to. Have you thought of a dummy burglar alarm box on the wall up a height.

you realise the driver went to extra effort to deliver that door to you?
the other issues are probably nothing to do with him/her.
had you come home to a card, you would have been more annoyed.

already got a fake alarm box, hopefully to be updated to the real deal in a few months when i have the cash. i'm sure i'll feel more secure then.

in the meantime, i'll write to them and see if anything comes of it.

    thanks for the tip!

The delivery driver got the job done, be happy it's delivered and you don't have to wait in all day. There are worse things in life to get worked up about.
At least you now know your locked gate isn't as secure as you thought, you might want to beef up your security a bit.

actually no, i wouldn't have been MORE annoyed if i'd come home to card, i'd have been fine because i wasn't expecting it to be delivered until 2 days later anyway, on the date agreed with the delivery company and the date i'd taken as annual leave to receive the door.

i appreciate that the delivery guiy may not have known about the other issues (though that isn't my fault as i was delaing with the company direct) and i realise he may see it as going the extra mile to deliver, but i truly wish he hadn't as then i wouldn't have wasted a second day off work!

I guess the plus side is the security flaw has been exposed by a delivery driver who intended no harm rather than a burglar there to take all your valuables :)

Now you can use your day off to enjoy your door

Or to add some extra security to your house.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.
