Halifax clarity credit card application question...

Just a quick one. They want me to send 2 forms of ID, do they accept photocopies or is it the original ID they want?
It just feels a bit odd posting my passport out in a flimsy freepost envelope. Is it insured or what?

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help.

It's insured if you pay for the insurance, they never asked me for any ID when I applied for mine, that said I already bank with halifax.

Could a Halifax branch not verify your ID for you?

  • I didn't know that was an option now I'd started along the online/postal route..? I guess it couldn't hurt to pop into a branch tomorrow though cause I happen to be in town anyways.

If not though is my only option to post the freepost envelope via the post office and pay for insurance?

If the letter doesn't state specifically, you have two options:

    1. Ring them and find out!

    2. Take the originals, and letter, to a Halifax branch, ask them to certify some copies (branch stamp, name & signature, etc) and send the certified copies.

I've never, nor will I ever, send an original passport/driving licence through the post to financial institutions.
  • I felt uncomfortable doing it so I'll get the certified copies you suggested. Thanks for that.

I'm very much a credit card virgin. I've only ever had one other and that was when they hussled me into an office in branch so was obviously very straight forward. I'm going on a trip around Europe though and didn't fancy carrying 10 days of euros around with me :D

    Thanks everyone.

    halifax are not the fastest
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
