Water Tank

Hi All,
Just hoping someone can help me and that I'm on the right page for this.
We have a hot water tank in an airing cupboard on the landing.
Recently this has been making a really loud noise when the heating comes on in the morning and also in the evening.
It is rattling quite a lot which is making the pipes rattle and then the floorboards start from that (waking us up!!)
Now we never have the hot water on (electric shower, dishwasher etc) and I know absolutely nothing about what I should do.
There is a small red "motor" type box on the tank and this has a switch that can be flicked between 3 settings so I'm not sure whether this is broken or not working properly?
I suppose people will need more detail but I literally dont have a clue what I should be doing on this. If you do need more details or have any idea what to do please let me know. Thanks

Hi.
A photo of your 'motor' or if you can find a photo on a website somewhere of the said 'motor'.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
Just popping it into google and its the "hot water circulator pump" that is vibrating a lot thus causing the pipes to rattle which makes the floorboards rattle.
Hope that helps?

first go into the loft & look in the smaller of the two tanks does it have water in it or is the ballvalve stuck up ?, it could be the pump or lack of water in the system due to the above or a blocked cold feed.I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0
