Wide curtains!

I'm moving house, and I need to get curtains for a window 270cm wide. Readymade curtains seem to stop at 230cm each curtain, and I know your ment to have double the width of the window to allow for gathering, meaning they would be 50cm short.
I cant afford to get curtains made, and I'm not really up to the job of making them myself. I am looking at eyelet top curtains, does anyone know if they need less gather as they dont have those pully string gather things? Has anyone else tried getting smaller curtain and did it work or was it a dead duck? Any advice appreciated!:)

i used these http://www.247curtains.co.uk/made_to_measure_curtains.asp
after seeing the curtains that one of my customers had got from them
she had one curtain made for her patio doors , so it was double the normal width , we both had the thermal lined version0 -
I'm not an expert but I would have thought that "eyelet" curtains and also "tab top" curtains would not be gathered like the "string pull" type.
Alternatively, could you look on ebay or in charity shops? I have found several pairs of curtains that way.
Not sure if that helps at all but best of luck anyway!Growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional :j0 -

Curtains to hang properly need to be between one and a half and double width. You only really need to go double if you want to have elaborate drapes and folds, so even with a 200 wide curtain, you will have more than enough drape. if you go to the max 230 they will look more luxurious.0 -
If you are using the curtains to dress the window you can get away with a narrower width.I'm not that way reclined
Jewelry? Seriously? Sheldon you are the most shallow, self-centered person I have ever met. Do you really think that another transparently-manipu... OH, IT'S A TIARA! A tiara; I have a tiara! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me!0
