PLEASE HELP!!!! warranty disputed

Hi,
I bought a second hand van from a dealer just over a month ago, and today the gear box has gone. I contacted the owner of the dealership and he advised that as I had knocked him down in price that I was not eligable for a warranty. There was no mention of this at the time, in fact whilst haggling I asked for a 12 month Warranty, and he replied No, just the standard three. I am in the process of checking all my paperwork, but am sure that there is no mention of a warrenty not being valid. I'm just wondering where i satnd with this, I do have two friends who were with me at the time of purchase who can confirm my side of the story, as I checked with them that I had not been mistaken and missed this.
Please Please help as with no van I can't work! Thanks
