Is this an SDS drill?

Hi folks,

I would appreciate yoru advice, Is this an SDS drill that will drill through hard concrete etc, on sale at Lidl

http://www.lidl-pageflip.com/ie.html?kid=sfzd1E

page 16 there is also a drill bit set on page 15.

What do they mean by an Sds plus adapter.

I am fed up with the £10 hammer drill I bought at argos, wont go through my hard brick walls or into concrete lintel above windows if putting up curtain rails. I tried putting up a plasma tv bracket with it, was literally trying to drill for hours and had to get someone else to do it, who drilled the holes in a few seconds.

Do you think would the above drill at Lidl solve my drilling problems?

Thanks for any advice.

Yeh its an sds drill. More specifically sds+. Theres different types of SDS with sds+ being most common. Essentially though this drill comes with an SDS adapter to fit standard drill bits (the smoth ones with no notches in the sides) So does both SDS and standard drill bits.

You sure your current drill is a hammer drill?! and for £10 without sounding too nasty it was never going to be any or particularly good. It seems more likely to be a drill/driver but the price might be why its a poor hammer drill. Any plug in hammer drill (set to the hammer function) shouldnt really struggle going into brick.

I would imagine it would be more than capable of what you need it for. If not maybe a bit too powerful you might end up ripping your wall to bits, if you go for it turn it as slow as possible untill you have a decent hole depth, then you can ramp it up a bit otherwise youll end up with a 6" hole.

I agree, my £40 Bosch from 1995 is still going strong, and it will drill through anything.
Goes to prove the point - buy wisely, buy once.

Thanks very much to you both for your good advice. I have just bought the drill and the bit set that is on page 15 of the Lidl booklet, if someone could have a look and let me know if the drill bits etc are suitable for the drill that I bought, otherwise I could leave the bit set back and save £6.99

    The drill bits are suitable.

With both chucks its very unlikely youll ever buy a drill bit that doesnt fit. Unless you start needing it for more trade purposes, ie very specific jobs.
