Washing Machine Energy Question

If I set my washing machine spin speed down to 800rpm from 1000rpm, will that save more energy than the higher spin speed?

Thanks.

Yes,it will, but it depends on how you dry your clothes as to whether it is cheaper or better in the long run.

Things that move like the spin on a washing machine drum don't really take up that much energy- it is the ones that produce heat that eat up most of the energy.

If you hang your clothes outside, then you can spin them slower.
If you hang them inside to be dried, using heat from a radiator, it will take longer because they are wetter, costing more energy.
If you use a tumble drier, then please don't!:D

fwiw, we turn the temperature down for a bigger saving but keep it on a longer slosh around in the drum to give it time to get clean(yes, our work clothes are dirty and really need it)

I reduce the spin on most of my washes as the clothes come out less creased so don't need ironing - saves the electricity on the iron but more important saves my time which is valuable and priceless:D
