Few Questions

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to ask a few questions about claiming back charges.
Friend of mine suggested this and i keep getting calls from one company about claiming back charges but i am rather dubious about letting them as my friend said i could maybe do it myself.
About 8 years ago i had a capital one credit card and many other accounts, i became very ill and was diagnosed with long term illness, I got into debt and i got hit with charges all over the place from all creditors including capital one because when i was in hospital direct debits were being bounced and they were adding late charges and non payment charges and all sorts making the debts higher. This went on for a few months and was severley affected my ill with stress and made my illness worse eventually my sister stepped in and paid all of my 10 thousand pound debt off and i closed all accounts after they were paid. Would i be able to claim back all charges from these closed accounts or has it been too long?? this would include all bank charges from three different banks /(Two which are now closed)
The reason i ask about the capital one card is about two years ago me and my partner opened new capital one accounts. Everything was fine but last june my we had some issues which severley affected our income. We've struggled to keep up payments but we seem to be getting hit with charges again all over the place even thought we have expressly shown the company we are in financial strain whilst making smaller payments. They keep pounding us with charges and making the debts higher. If i was to claim back any charges from my old capital one account do you think capital one would be willing just to put the amount towards the balance on our joint one to clear the accounts as it seems to me if i was able to claim anything back they would just be paying me to pay it directly back to them??
Also How do i claim back on companies i had loans with that are now no longer in this business. I had various loans with london scottish bank and i found recent paperwork from 2002 showing a lot of ppi i never knew i had. Will i be able to do this? As they stopped issuing loans a year later and the company was bought over by i believe morses club.
Thanks
Lou
