constant phone calls from British Gas

I don't know if this is the right forum really but I'm really at the end of my tether with British Gas, they just won't stop ringing me after I left them a year ago.

They are trying to get me to go back to them but I never would now. I've tried everything I can think of, shouting at them, asking politely, leaving the phone off the hook. Each time I ask them to remove my details and not ring again but a couple of days later, the phone goes again. They call at least weekly, sometimes twice a week. Any advice?

Have you told them you're in a fixed 2 year deal so can't change supplier, so to call you back in 2 years?

Have you WRITTEN to them telling them to stop harassing you?
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Someone will tell me if I'm wrong but I think you can write to people and withdraw your consent for them to telephone you......

Phone up their complaints dept (as opposed to speaking to the sales staff who couldn't care less about anything apart from sales) and ask to be removed from their mailing list. If this doesn't work, write to them and ask again. Also report them to the ICO (and tell them you're doing so).

    I've been Money Tipped!
Write to them (email or recorded delivery letter) stating that you are not interested in their products or services and do not want them to contact you again. Tell them that you believe the continued calls against your wishes (which you have made explicitly clear to them) constitute an aggressive commercial practice under the Consumer Protection From Unfair Trading Regulations and should they call again you will be making a complaint to Trading Standards.

The above has worked for me with a couple of companies that had made repeated sales calls and ignored my verbal requests to stop calling.

I agree with Fluffnutter about using the ICO, I only stopped getting emails from ebuyer after the ICO wrote to them.

Just sign up to the TPS - that should stop them.

Might not stop others, but should stop BG.

Please note that TPS doesn't stop calls from firms you've had dealings with, just unsolicited sales calls. It also takes 28 days to take effect. It's still a good idea, though.

I've had no unsolicited calls since I signed up. Whether I would have had any anyway is another matter.

It's firms you have dealings with, not had. If the OP is an ex-customer not a current one, BG won't phone him if he's on the TPS. Not after 28 days anyway...

    From the link above...
Organisations with which you have an ongoing relationship, for example those who regard you as a customer, (or in the case of charities - a donor) may well gather your consent during the early stages of your relationship with them and will therefore be entitled to call you even if your number is registered on TPS, unless you have previously told them specifically that you object to them calling you for marketing purposes.
