Hi DH friend has asked me to look at his boys laptops. One is sorted but the other one will not allow me / them to surf the net.
I have set up a new connection to my own home router. It shows that it is connected but I can't bring up any web pages.
It's driving me mad!
Are there any suggestions please how this could be repaired?

Can you access the router home page on the laptop?:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:

Try changing your router channel0

Check your firewall, I had one in the other day that had a OEM installed trial Mcafee which had expired but was blocking just the http port, other ports were open so you could ping or access an https site. Initially it failed on IE, then on FireFox then on Chrome eventually rendering it unusable for the customer. Removal of Mcafee resolved the problem.0

Also check dns in network settings.0

Also worth clicking 'file' in your Browser, and checking if there is an option to 'work offline' . If it says something like 'work online' instead (not sure which browser you are using), then you are offline, so click it to get online.0

Is there a proxy set in Internet Explorer?0

Some good suggestions above, if they don't work try the following:
1. Reset yr TCP/IP settings as follows in the Command prompt: you will need to reboot after:
ipconfig /flushdns
netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
netsh winsock reset
2. If the above doesn't resolve it, try resetting yr Firewall, inititally turn it off; if you can then connect you know you have a firewall problem.
3. If using a proprietary internet security program (IS), check that the child protection isn't set. Otherwise as a previous poster said, try uninstalling the IS, and then trying the connection (you can always replace with one of the free varieties!).0 -
Thank you all so much.
I have managed to connect now.
I uninstalled the out of date nortons as suggested by amonaghan.
I was then able to install malwarebytes. It came up with 53 problems including several Trojans.
Once removed the laptop connected straight away.
Thanks again
