sent a TalkTalk bill - but we don't use them

Has this happened to anyone else? We've just received a TalkTalk bill for, well not it's too clear what for, but according to it we've signed up with them for some service or other. which we haven't. So of course going to have to go through some palaver to get rid. Have we had a rep just sign us up without even talking to us, and if so, who do we complain to?
What is weird is that the bill shows us to be £15 in credit due to a £15 'agency payment' received. Any ideas what that might refer to?

We've def not spoken to anyone, agreed to anything, or paid any money.

  • The only thing I can think of is that Pipex and Tiscali were taken both taken over by TalkTalk. Were/are you subscribed to either of those ISP's?

Have you previously been with TT? (This thread at TTMF relates to someone no longer with TT but has received a bill relating to a new, non-existant account).

TT have been having a number of issues recently relating to billing (e.g. switching customers to [paid for] paper billing because "their email address is not working" for receiving billing emails, even though the same email addresses can quite happily receive the TT marketing guff). I wonder if your issue is just another billing-related problem?

I presume your current ISP/broadband/phone is working OK?

Worst case scenario is that you've been "slammed" which is illegal. If so you can take it up with Ofcom:-

We have been visited by TT's so called door-to-door salespersons in the past, but I suspect that they are not actually representing that company as we are already TT customers!

A neighbour of ours, just after such a visit along the street by one of the afore-mentioned teams, was switched without his knowledge from BT to TalkTalk. He only found out when BT rang him up to see if they could salvage the account. BT got it sorted pronto!

I think you may have been the victim of unscrupulous scammers who have filled in an agreement with TT on your behalf, probably having got your existing phone and name details from elsewhere - maybe a form you have filled in elsewhere or even from your dustbin.

They get a commission for this which gets paid long before the truth comes to light. Looks like the scammers filled in the wrong boxes and have put your details in the box as the person to whom the commission should be paid.

I suggest you ring your existing phone supplier and tell them what has happened - you'll probably get a more decisive response if they contact TT, rather than you trying to shift them.

Regarding my previous reply ... there are several threads on the TT forum about people being bounced to paper billing, even though their emails are working fine. Looks like there is a serious billing system issue at TT.

Thanks for all the answers. We'll get on to current provider to make sure we don't get switched over, and then TT can take a running jump!

Easy way to check you haven't already got slammed is to dial 150 on your housephone and check it is still going through to your own provider and not TT.
