chargeback for mistaken payment for digital services?

I registered an account with a company that provides online services; I was under the impression I was registering an account that would allow me to then purchase services, however the account had services created on registration. I have been billed £66 for services with the company that I don't want, so I contacted their billing team and was told that they can see I didn't use the services so they have refunded the money... in account credit. The services I want to use with them are £2, so I have account credit (£66) I don't need and they are refusing to refund the money back to my credit card. This means they have a "free" £64 (£66 - £2 I intended on spending).

Does this situation call for a chargeback? They have no system for withdrawing account credit and I was not intending on signing up for the service, so the £66 payment was mistaken. Will charging back be appropriate? Are there any UK regulations that cover this? Can they force me to only have account credit if they acknowledge I did not use the services they charged me for?

I entered my CC details because they stated it needed to be used for fraud prevention. It's a reputable company.

What do their terms and conditions say about refunds ? You say that you signed up intending to purchase services from them, why won't you be able to use the credit ?

There isn't a chargeback right for change of mind after signing up.

Their terms do not mention refunds.

The problem is the £66 is more than the cost of the services I want to use. I signed up with the intention of purchasing services that cost £2. I didn't change my mind, the services they billed me for were not services I wanted. As they have acknowledged the services were never used.

It's only £66, if I lose it then whatever, I'm just curious if I have any right to request they return the money instead of give me account credit.

All a bit vague I'm afraid. However, the essence of what you're saying seems to be that the company has agreed to give you a refund but their system won't allow them to, so they've given you a credit instead. Under such circumstances I would think it's unlikely they'd challenge a chargeback.

However, your reasons for wanting one seem to be that you didn't understanding what you were signing up to and didn't use the service. I don't think these are really valid reasons to request a chargeback.

    Ah okay, yes they do:

All charges are non-refundable unless stated otherwise, or otherwise provided by applicable law

Alright, I'll leave it then. Thanks :)
