Creaking / Squeaky Floorboards

Hi
I have creaky floorboards in the doorway to my bedroom and the landing. It is very annoying especially when it wakes my daughter up if anyone goes to the toilet in the night.
I have tried screwing down the floorboards, but in the doorway there is the "squiggles" to indicate pipes underneath so I have avoided putting in any screws there.
We are getting new carpets fitted in the next hour, so last night I put some wood glue in the gaps between the chipboards in the hope it may make it slightly better. However this morning it seems to be worse, whether I am imagining it or not.
Question is, could it have made it worse? Am I thinking it is worse as there is no carpet on it to muffle the sound / as there is direct contact to the floor boards? And should I cut the glue apart or just leave it?
I was only trying to make it better (even if only marginally) but if it ends up that I have made it worse I will be very annoyed with myself.
Would greatly appreciate any help/advice asap, so I have the chance to do something before carpet is fitted.
Thanks

remove any boards, clean them up with sandpaper and wax the edges, then screw them back down.
that way you can see exactly where any pipes/cables are.
ps.
