It probably is. This government's policy is to do everything it can to help corporations, and nothing to help individuals. For example, the proposed weakening of employment law. Money talks innit.
As an aside, I couldn't see it mentioned in this article, but I did hear on the radio the other day that Trading Standards were going to lose their right to do unscheduled visits. I suspect it's part of this legislation. Basically, they'll have to give notice now meaning that rogue traders will easily be able to get their houses in order first."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
IMO there hsould be a national CONSUMER PROTECTION SERVICE or NATIONAL TRADING STANDARDS AGENCY which should so ALL advice to consuemrs and businesses and all enforcement - but that would be too easy (but to be fair near impossible to implement in reality).
The bottom line is Consumer protection is under funded, bumping some of it off to an already struggling CAB doesn't help IMO.
I have also noted the CAB can be quite political - Consumer Direct was not -it had a very simple job. As part of a bigger CAB it will be interesting to see how they behave.0 -
