Balance transfer with nothing to transfer?

Apologies if this a stupid question.

Just had an offer from my Mint CC offering me 0% APR on balance transfers. This needs to be done soon to qualify. We're in the process of buying some furniture, which I can use my Barclaycard to pay for and then hopefully transfer the balance to the mint one. But can I do this if the balance hasn't appeared on the barclaycard yet? ie do they know exactly how much balance you have to transfer? Or can you transfer it in advance iyswim?

They have offered me "cash" on the same T&C's but I'd have to phone them to do that...normal transfers can be done online therefore less hassle.

Thanks.

I've never tried this, but I presume they would apply a credit to your Barclaycard, and it would stay in credit until you spend it on the furniture

This said, you may be better off to apply for new card with 0% purchase depending on your credit?

Rather than risk breaching any Barclaycard condition re positive balances, or losing section 75 protection due to spending your own money, I'd take the 'money transfer'...especially if it's on the same terms as the balance transfer.

Isnt mint owned by barclaycard now anyway?
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Don't think so. Their online servicing makes reference to RBSG still...

    Maybe you're thinking of Egg?

Thanks for the replies. Good point regarding section 75 protection, I'd never thought of that. Guess the best option is to phone them and arrange the money transfer, as the terms are exactly the same. Just prefer doing these things online rather than actually having to talk to another human!

We were originally going to apply for a new card with 0 % purchases before this offer came in the post. It suits us though, it's for 12 months and we'd want to pay off the balance within that period anyway.

Yup, Barclaycard took over Egg, Mint is owned by RBS.
