Flaking paint exterier of house

Hi folks,

I need to get outside of house painted again, just the old faithful magnolia paint.

There is a fair bit of flaking of the paint in several spots since its been 8 years since it was painted last.

Obviously will just get the flaking and loose stuff off, but just wondering what is the best way to get an even finish (not able to see the edges) when I repaint.

Whats the best way to build it up again, just paint over where the flaking stuff has been taken off and hope for the best, or use sandpaper at the edges?

Thanks for much for any info to this NSGDIY (not so good diyer

:)
