planning permission for fence

Hi all, any advice would be appreciated.
We recently moved house and want to do some work in the garden. We want to put up a fence & have looked on the planning portal & we will need planning permission as the new fence will be next to a footpath.
The planning officer won't talk to us unless we apply for pre planning advice & pay an additional £52. Really, I only want to know what sort of documents, plans etc we need to submit? i've been back to the planning portal & it all seems very complicarted for a fence.
Thanks

Doesn't it depend on the fence height?
Is it replacing an existing fence?
You should be able to talk to the duty planner without charge at your local one-stop shop or similar. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thanks for your reply.
It is a new fence & as it's next to a road it can only be 1m without permission & thats no use for security or privacy.
I tried to speak to someone & i received an E-mail that said they couldn't give advice over the phone, customer service eh.0 -
As I said, go into the LA's one-stop shop and they should be able to help you-you can't do it over the phone. No free lunch, and no free laptop

If you're thinking of putting up fence panels, gets some photos first.
Indicate on the photo the overall height it will be. If it's no more than 1 m high you wont need PP anyway.
You will need an up to date site location plan which you can download from an Ordinance Survey agent such as Stanfords. They'll charge you about £15-£20 and you'll need to provide a block plan of the site at 1-500 scale indicating where the fence is to go with a red line. You'll also need to put a red line around the whole site on the location plan.
You'll also need to get hold of, and again you can down load from your LA website, a house holder planning application form, which is a very simple form, with that you can download any instructions you'll need to follow.
Submit the lot to the Planning Dept along with your fee of £166.0 -
Thanks keyfob. We are working through the form on the planning portal which isn't simple, but we're getting there.0

Totally agree with ornus and £52 isn't much compared to my local district council which charges a whopping £180 ! Have to say they were more helpful than OP's council.0
