in the middle of April we will be booking a late deal to go 1st week of may - probably Canaries or Sharm - if we did choose the Egypt holiday are vaccinations required or even viable as we would be travelling 3 weeks later

Your travel insurance may require you to have vaccinations before you are covered. Check your policy.
Vaccinations are recommended

You will find plenty of people on here that will say 'I didn't have any to visit 'x place' and I was fine, blah, blah, blah....'
As above, check your insurance policy but also check with your GP/practice nurse re: recommended vax.0 -
Having been to Egypt a few times and Sharm twice I'd suggest you should be asking not 'what's required' but 'what's sensible'.
In short, tetanus, typhoid, Hep A & B are all sensible immunisations even for normal living in this country so you should ensure you are up to date with those. The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0
