HSBC Credit Card PPI claim

Hi,
I'm looking for a bit of help. I've held a HSBC CC since 1996 and then was upgraded to a HSBC Gold Card sometime around 2002 (At a guess) I contacted HSBC regarding my PPI and have sent me a full and final offer of £59. The outline of offer indicates that I only had PPI for one month which dates 22 March 2007 - 23 April 2007 which is just crazy.
The card has been paid off and cancelled in 2007.
I've spoken to them and they claim they cannot find ANY records or statements of me holding a card before then. They want ME to provide statements dating back to 1996 to prove my claim, which I cannot do as I do not have any.
Basically - what can I do?
Thanks in advance,
Steve

Hi both
Subject Access Requests (SAR's) they generally provide data going back to the last 6 years, but if businesses still hold data for longer they will send them as well.
You can give it a go on the SAR, and if any of the accounts were still active the last 6 years, then there should still be details held until it was settled.
If you want to request for a SAR (optionally), there is a template letter below link, you enclose the one off payment of £10 cheque or postal order, they have 40 calendar days to comply.

Many have made successful reclaims even if no paperwork, but it may help in case you need to provide some copies of evidence whilst making a reclaiming/complaint.
To make a reclaim, step 3 to the reclaim questionnare, send to the ones responsible for setting up the account, keep copies for yourself as well, good luck.

There appear to have been quite a few "prove it" requests from HSBC with regard old accounts.
It will be interesting if they provide the information (through a SAR) which they claim not to have in a "full and final" PPI response!0 -
The problem is they claim NOT to have any information earlier than 2007 so I don't see that a SAR will do any good and if they're only meant to keep data for the last 6 years... Personally I think HSBC are telling porkies and not looking hard enough. If I owed THEM money from 1997 I'm sure as hell know they'd find the data. My current account with them is still open but sat dormant, but if they look back through the records they'll see DD payments from that account towards the CC bill.
I've passed this on to the ombudsman but I'm prepared to take them to court if need be.0 -

It'll cost you £10 to find out, no need to mention exactly why you require the information and it would definitely be necessary if you decided to take them to court.(Not recommended) Template here;

I might well send off my tenner and keep my fingers crossed. Like you say, I've only got a tenner to loose really.
Thanks
