Levelling garden Advice

Hi All,
The wife wants to have our back garden levelled.
We have approx 6ft of slabs before the garden is raised at a height of 24 inches, and goes back approx 16 ft towards our neighbours on the back. Also our neighbours garage wall is to the left of ours and our garage is to the right. To give a clearer picture, the raised area we want to level is just in one section of the garden.
Any ideas as to how it can be done and what I am getting myself into?

a lot of hard work. hubby did ours last year
took loads of digging and clearing all the old wall and soil, then the first step was the levelling and drainage. he used some ash to help dry up the clay fore he layered with top soils and eventually the new patio was laid and lastly the turf.0 -
you want to shift soil, 16ft x what? x 2ft!
if its anything like a normal width garden!
thats a hellava lot of dirt. with a spade?
youll prob need a skip/s and 4 men (or 2 very fit men) with spades and barrows. and itll take all day.
to do it properly, you are supposed to take off the topsoil, keep it. and remove the subsoil. down 2 ft. then replace the topsoil!

this may help you decide.
1. Calculate the cubic (m) volume (width x length x depth)
2. Multiply this by 1.5 to estimate the tonnage!Get some gorm.0 -
