Help - Waste/ Soil Pipe leaking

Hi
I noticed the weekend that my outside waste/ soil pipe is leaking. On closer inspection it appears to have a small hole in it near the join to the main pipe that runs the length of the house and into the ground.
Is this a big job and going to cost me a fortune or is it something that can be DIY'd bearing in mind I'm very novice.
I think the pipe is cast iron or whatever they are made from, it's defo not plastic.
I'll post pics tonight when i'm home from work.
