in Cutting tax
Hi,
Firstly, feel free to move this thread if I've posted it in the wrong place.
On to my query: I have a question which relates to a job within a company that is registered in Italy and whose operations are almost exclusively in Italy.
However, my job would be to work as a translator from the UK. I haven't set foot in Italy for 5 years and wouldn't need to go back to perform my duties. Who taxes my income? HMRC (via self-assessment etc.) or the Italian equivalent?
This can't be that uncommon an arrangement in this day and age, so I was surprised I couldn't find anything online and thought I'd ask you lot!
Cheers.

You would have to pay UK tax (HMRC) and you should not be liable to any Italian tax at all.
This should be like an Italian company purchasing service from a UK company.0 -
Wonderful. That makes things ten times easier for me.
Thank you so much.0 -
Try
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/Taxes/LeavingOrComingIntoTheUK/DG_10026136
As in:
Working partly in and partly outside the UK for an overseas employer
If you're resident and ordinarily resident, you'll pay UK tax on all your earnings.0 -

From what I understand, the OP will remain in the UK and can be considered to be working as a 'contractor' as opposed to employee.
Should be pretty straight forward.0 -
Ah, good find; didn't spot that!0
