Water Based Gloss Paint

Which of the water based gloss paints has the most glossy finish. I dont really like the matt finish very much. I would use oil based gloss as i love the high gloss finish but the smell makes me really ill. So i need a glossy finish and very low odour.

It's the oiled based varnish within the gloss paint that gives it it's glossy finish. Water based glosses don't give the same glossy finish, more of a sheen than a gloss

i've just c ompleted a job using dulux ecosense paint , it needed 2 undercoats , but although it doesn't have the high sheen of solvent based paints , it is easy to put on , doesn't smell and dries quickly , also being water based it won't yellow as solvent based paints do

Not all solvent based paints yellow, or at least some take many many years to discolour, though I think all gloss ones do.

I thought Ronseal Diamond white gloss (water based) looked nice, not high gloss. I also really like satin paints, having got used to them. I think one advantage of OB gloss is that the high resin content means the finish is tougher.

  • I would recommend Johnstones Aqua Gloss. Used this after reading about it on another forum and having had bad yellowing with Delux. Not a strong smell, nice shine and easy to wash the brushes!
